Empires is the fourth studio album by the Australian worship band Hillsong United . It was released on May 26, 2015.

The album's lead single, Touch the Sky , was released on March 24, 2015. The song was performed on the Today Show , among other things , which was the group's first appearance on American television. The album was produced by Joel Houston and Michael Guy Chislett.

USA Today's Brian Mansfield gave the album 2.5 stars out of 4. Above all, he praised the atmosphere created by the album, noting that both the message and the melodies play an important role for Hillsong United. Ryan Barbee from Jesus Freak Hideout rated the album 4.5 out of 5 stars, describing the album as most likely the album that 2015 has been waiting for .

Like its predecessor Zion , Empires also rose to number one on the Australian charts . With eleven weeks in the charts, it is the longest-placed Hillsong album to date. In the United States , it rose to number five with over 50,000 units sold in the first week. In the Top Christian Albums, the album reached number one as the fourth studio album in a row. At number 34, it was the group's best-placed album in the UK charts to date . In New Zealand and Norway , positions in the top ten were achieved.

Singles

All twelve tracks on the album achieved a placement in the Billboard Hot Christian Songs. The most successful was Touch the Sky , where the single reached number three and was awarded a gold record in 2017 .
