Gabriele Kaiser

Gabriele Kaiser (born April 2, 1952 in Lambrecht (Palatinate) ) is a German math teacher and university teacher .

life and work

From 1973, Kaiser studied mathematics and social studies at the University of Kassel and in 1978 he passed the first state examination in teaching and the second state examination after his legal clerkship. From 1985 to 1992 she worked as a research assistant at Werner Blum and received her doctorate in 1986 in the Mathematics Department under the supervision of Werner Blum and Arnold Kirsch with the dissertation: Applications in Mathematics Classes - Concepts and Investigations for Teaching Implementation. From 1992 to 1995 she carried out an international comparative study on mathematics teaching in England and Germany, with which she completed her habilitation in 1997 at the University of Kassel. From 1996 to 1998 she was visiting professor at the University of Potsdam . Since 1998 she has taught as a professor at the University of Hamburg for educational science with special attention to didactics of mathematics. Her research areas include mathematical modeling in mathematics lessons, learning mathematics in the context of linguistic and cultural diversity, international comparative studies on teacher training and teacher professionalism. From October 2010 to October 2016 she was Vice Dean for Research, Promotion of Young Talent and Internationalization of the Faculty of Education. Since 2017 she has been a professor at the Institute for Learning Science and Teacher Training at the Australian Catholic University . Since 2005 she has been editor-in-chief of ZDM Mathematics Education (formerly Zentralblatt für Didaktik der Mathematik). In July 2019 she was elected President of the ICMI affiliated study group “International Association of Teachers for Mathematical Modeling and Applications” (ICTMA).
