Danny Rivera

Danny Rivera (born February 27, 1945 in San Juan ) is a Puerto Rican singer.

Live and act

As a child, Rivera sang in the choir of the parish church of Santurce. He made his debut as a professional singer in 1968 with the orchestra of César Concepción at the Hotel San Juan . In the same year he sang at the Festival de Popularidad and recorded his first album Amor Amor with the group Clean Cuts . In the following years he became popular with titles such as Porque yo te amo and Fuiste mía un verano , Mi Viejo , Jesucristo , Tu pueblo es mi pueblo , Tantos deseos de ella , La Distancia , Para decir adiós and Ódiame .

The live double album Danny Rivera en directo was created at a concert in Guaynabo's Teatro Cinema 4 . The music of the Nueva Trova with political and socially critical texts were the albums Alborada and Serenata . In the 1980s Rivera founded his own record label DNA, where he released Así cantaba Cheíto González and Inolvidable Tito , a homage to Tito Rodríguez . He released three important albums in the 1990s: Canto a la humanidad , Tiempo al tiempo and Daniel (the latter dedicated to Daniel Santos ).

Rivera has performed with musicians such as Julio Iglesias , Plácido Domingo and Whitney Houston throughout his career , and has given concerts at Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall (documented in the album En vivo desde el Carnegie Hall ). In 2001 he was imprisoned in Puerto Rico for protests against US military exercises. In 2002 he published the book Enamorado de la Paz , a collection of poems and diary entries from this imprisonment.
