Daniel Dano Halsall (born February 16, 1963 in Geneva ) is a former Swiss swimmer . He specialized in freestyle swimming.

Career

Halsall, the son of a Swiss woman and a Jamaican, came to swimming at the age of eight in 1971 as part of school swimming. After a coach discovered him, he began his professional career in 1983. Halsall celebrated his first international success at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . After fifth place in the 50 m freestyle and 11th place in the 100 m butterfly, he and his teammates only got seventh and ninth places in the two relay competitions.

On July 21, 1985, at the Swiss meeting in Bellinzona , he set a new world record in the 50 meter freestyle with 22.4 seconds , which was held until December 1985. At the 1986 World Swimming Championships in Madrid , he won the silver medal behind the American Tom Jager in this discipline .

At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , he narrowly missed his first Olympic medal over the 50 meters in fourth. Over the 100 meters he was in 23rd place at the end. Together with Patrick Ferland , Étienne Dagon and Stéfan Voléry , he finished the subsequent relay race in ninth place.

Four years later he started again at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 over the 50-meter distance, but did not get beyond 16th place and ended his active career after the Games. In the course of his swimming career, Halsall won a total of 86 Swiss championship titles.

Private

Halsall is married for the second time. He and his first wife have two grown children. He and his second wife Lena have a son, Suny. After the end of his active career, he began to work in the real estate business and founded the agency L-agen.se in Lausanne .
