Dany Brawand

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dany Brawand (born March 9, 1934 in Vevey ; † January 13, 2012 in Turin ) was a Swiss industrial designer who worked for Italian design studios and automobile manufacturers.

biography

After finishing school in 1952, Brawand began an apprenticeship at the Swiss bodywork company Ghia Aigle . There he met Giovanni Michelotti , who was Ghia Aigle's chief designer at the time. When Michelotti became self-employed in Turin in the mid-1950s, Brawand followed him to Italy.

Michelotti

Brawand was employed by Michelotti until 1965. Initially he was his assistant, later he also influenced the design of numerous car bodies. Since the 1960s, Brawand was primarily the creator of many coupé and convertible bodies that Michelotti's studio designed for Moretti , including the Moretti 500 coupé based on the Fiat 500 and a notchback coupé based on the technology of the Fiat 1500 . Brawand's last design for Michelotti was a large sports car on the chassis of the Maserati 3500 GT , the structure of which was reminiscent of the Iso Grifo and of which only one copy was made by Moretti.

Moretti

In 1965 there was a falling out with Michelotti. Brawand had previously sold some of his designs directly to Moretti without consulting Michelotti. Michelotti then dismissed Brawand. After a brief, unsuccessful period of self-employment, Brawand took over the position of design director at Moretti in Turin in 1966, which he held until the company closed in 1989. During this time he designed all the bodies for Moretti's vehicles. His best design is the Moretti 850 SS Sportiva , the lines of which are reminiscent of the Fiat Dino .

Self-employment and retirement

In the 1990s, Brawand worked as a freelance consultant. At times he was involved in the development of the Fiat Multipla . At the end of the decade, Brawand retired.

In 2012 he died in Turin of complications from cancer. He was buried in his home parish.
