Darius-Paul Dassault born Darius-Paul Bloch (born January 13, 1882 in Paris ; † May 3, 1969 ibid) was a French general who was in the French Resistance and took the pseudonym Dassault there.

Life

Dassault studied at the Paris École polytechnique and received his doctorate in 1901. He made a career in the army and in 1933 was Général de brigade . During the occupation he was active in the resistance and was given the name Dassault, which is derived from the code name "Chardasso" and probably from "char d'assault", the French term for attack tank. In 1944 he was appointed Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor ( grand chancelier de la Légion d'honneur ) and held this position until 1954. In 1953 he was accepted into the Académie des Sciences . He is 10 years older brother of the aviation entrepreneur Marcel Bloch , who also took the name Dassault.
