Darkher is an English metal and rock band from West Yorkshire formed in 2014.

history

Jayn Hanna "Darkher" Wissenberg founded the band Darkher in 2014 after having previously worked in the band The Steals and released an EP and an album there in 2006 and 2009 . 2013 was published by Faun Records a self-titled EP, which in itself Prophecy Productions EP The Kingdom Field (2014) and the debut album Realms that includes a book as a side dish joined. Before signing the contract with Prophecy Productions, Jayn Wissenberg had published The Kingdom Field in self-publication with an edition of 100 copies. The band was also active live; she played at the Prophecy Fest in Balve in 2015 and at the Roadburn Festival in the same year . In addition to Jayn Wissenberg, who is responsible for the electric guitar and production in addition to the vocals, the line-up consists of the guitarist and bassist Martin T. Wissenberg and the drummer Shaun "Winter" Taylor-Steels.

style

According to laut.de , the band moves musically between rock , gothic rock and doom metal . Similar to Chelsea Wolfe and Esben and the Witch, Wissenberg sings about "lost souls" and soaks "every syllable in basic sadness". Meredith Schmiedeskamp from Rock Hard described the music as a mixture of "acoustic guitar sounds, mystical chants and heavy Doom passages". In an interview with her, front woman Wissenberg stated that she tries to use fragile and introverted as well as heavy and massive elements in music. In the same issue, Thorsten Dörting reviewed the album Realms . The song titles would have an esoteric touch and suggest "highly pubescent Gothic Weltschmerz ". Electric basses and lower pitched guitars are used in the songs. Musically, one moves between a post-rock version of Chelsea Wolfe, a more delicate version of Sólstafir and Portishead . Marcel Rudoletzky from Metal Hammer classified The Kingdom Field in folk rock, doom metal and post rock. The music sounds mysterious and mystical and would be performed with an “incomparably beguiling voice”. There are also "quiet acoustic guitars, an eerie synth atmosphere and hypnotizing song loops".
