The Darmstadt Fecht Club 1890 eV (DFC) is a fencing club based in Darmstadt . It is one of the three still existing founding clubs of the German Fencing Federation and with 204 members the largest fencing club in Hesse.

history

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse and near the Rhine, Darmstadt citizens founded the Darmstadt Fencing Club on May 19, 1890. In 1912, the Darmstadt fencers Willi Löffler and Martin Steffan took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm Write club history. In the following year, the Darmstadt fencing club rose in 1913 with 106 members after the Offenbach fencing club to become the second largest German fencing club. After the Allies were banned from fencing as a result of World War II, training was resumed in 1950. In 1983 the move into the newly built large sports hall of the Georg Büchner School took place . The victories in the German Cup in 1988 in the men's epee and in 2007 in the men's floret were among the particular successes of the DFC. The epee fencer Peter Bitsch from Darmstadt won bronze at the junior European championships and gold at the junior team world championships.

training

Training takes place three days a week in the sports hall of the Georg Büchner School . The training is offered in the three sports weapons foil , epee and saber . The DFC regularly organizes taster courses for interested children, while young people and adults can join the training at any time.

Club life

In addition to the pure sporting activity, the club held a comprehensive youth program with regular excursions and trips lasting several days. Since 2016 there has been an exchange with the Paul Davis Fencing Academy, St. Albans, England. The association organizes the Darmstadt Degen Marathon (active tournament) and the Merck Youth Cup (foil tournament for schoolchildren and B-youth).
