Darrell Thompson (born November 23, 1967 in Rochester , Minnesota ) is a former professional American football player on the position of running back .

After Thompson had taken his degree at the John Marshall High School in Rochester, he played for the college team of the Minnesota Golden Gophers , where he was an outstanding player and is still regarded as one of the best players ever in the Golden Gophers played to have. In two seasons he was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) of his team. He scored there over 4,600 yards extra space and subsequently in 1990 by the Green Bay Packers in the first round to 19th position drafted . During his career in the National Football League (NFL) he gained 1,600 yards in 60 games and caught 8 touchdowns. During his time in the NFL, he began to get involved as part of a social program in the Twin Cities.

After Thompson ended his sports career in 1994, he returned to the Twin Cities and continued his work there in the social "Bolder Options" project. He also occasionally works as a radio commentator at sporting events.
