Map of the Socotra Archipelago with Darsa |
Darsa ( Arabic درسة, DMG Darsa , also Darsah ) is - apart from a few rocky islands - the smallest and southernmost island of the Socotra archipelago in the north-western Indian Ocean and thus represents the southernmost landmass of the Republic of Yemen . Administratively, like all islands of the archipelago, it belongs to the governorate Socotra .
geography
The uninhabited island is around 38 km southwest of Socotra , the main island of the archipelago. Darsa and its neighboring island of Samha in the west, 17 km away, are also known as al-Ichwan /الإخوان / al-Iḫwān / means 'the brothers'. The elongated island is about 7 km long, up to 1.8 km wide and has an area of around 10 km².
Together with the three neighboring islands of the Socotra Archipelago, Darsa has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 .
