Daryl Campbell

Daryl "Flea" Campbell (* 1924 in Pittsburgh ; † October 29, 2011 ) was an American jazz musician ( trumpet ).

Live and act

Campbell left home at the age of 14 with the intention of becoming a professional musician. At first he played in burlesque groups; first recordings were made in 1949 when he was working for Charlie Spivak and His Orchestra. After all, he was a member of the orchestras of Tommy Dorsey , Ray Anthony and Benny Goodman in the 1950s and 1960s . Since the late 1960s he worked a. a. with the singers Marlene VerPlanck ( A Breath 0f Fresh Air , 1969), Toni Tennille and in the big bands of Sammy Nestico ( Dark Orchid , 1981) and Les Brown ( Aurex Jazz Festival '83 ). Campbell's only self-published album was created around 2007 under his own name, I'm 81 and Havin 'Fun: Daryl "Flea" Campbell, his Trumpet and Friends with special guest Lynn Roberts . In the field of jazz he was involved in 37 recording sessions between 1949 and 2007. He died as a result of a hip operation.
