The Phantom of Corleone - On the trail of the last mafia godfather is an Italian documentary film by the film director Marco Amenta who goes to Sicily to collect information about the boss of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra , Bernardo Provenzano , who has been in hiding since 1963 . The film director Marco Amenta, who left Sicily at the age of 18, is going back there today to gather information about the Cosa Nostra boss Bernardo Provenzano from Corleone , who has been in hiding for more than 40 years . He meets with the Italian mafia hunters Roberto Scarpinato , Guido La Forte and Giuseppe Linares and reports on Provenzano as a person, whose bloody rise in the Sicilian mafia and the authorities' search for Provenzano and its allies. Amenta also meets with the Mafia lawyer Salvatore Traina, who was commissioned by Provenzano's mother in 1992 to defend her son Bernardo while he was still on the run. The documentary shows the events of the so-called second great Mafia war in Sicily, which was driven off by Salvatore "Totò" Riina and Provenzano and it shows a raid led by Giuseppe Linares against 36 alleged members of the Cosa Nostra, in particular the liability of Vincenzo Virga and it is about the arrests of Benedetto Spera and Antonino Giuffrè reported. The murder attacks on examining magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino also play a role and Marco Amenta learns of clues that suggest that Provenzano may have been protected by politicians at the highest level during his escape.
