Datia ( Duttia ) was a princely state in the Bundelkhand region of British India . It was created in 1626 through an inheritance division of the Bundela - Rajputs of Orchha . The Raos of Datia took the title Raja in 1820 , Parichhat Singh in 1877 the title Maharaja . The initially small principality was enlarged by conquests and fiefs of the Mughals of Delhi and in 1941 had an area of 2362 km² and 183,000 inhabitants.
Datia was a British protectorate from 1801 to 1947, joined the Princely Union of Vindhya Pradesh on April 4, 1948 , and joined India on January 1, 1950 . On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved and Vindhya Pradesh was incorporated into the state of Madhya Pradesh .
Datia had a state post with its own stamps from 1893 to 1921.
