Datisca cannabina is a species of plant from the pseudo-hemp family (Datiscaceae).
description
Datisca cannabina is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 1 to 4 meters. The species is wind-flowered and mostly dioecious. The stem is erect. The leaves are alternate and pinnate unpaired. The leaflets are lanceolate and serrate. Their tips are greatly elongated so that they reach a length of 10 centimeters. The flowers are arranged in long, racemose inflorescences. Petals are missing. Male flowers have 8 to 25 stamens. The female flowers have 3 to 5 thread-shaped and deep two-column styles.
The flowering period extends from July to August.
Occurrence
The species occurs in the eastern Mediterranean , Turkey , the Caucasus , Iran and the Himalayas . It grows in damp forests and on river banks at altitudes of 20 to 1700 meters.
