Dauþuz ( common Germanic for "death") is a German metal band.

history

The band was launched in 2016 by the two musicians Syderyth and Aragonyth, whose musical vita had previously included groups such as Wintarnaht and Seelenfrost . In terms of content, they work with the "negative aspects of (pre-) industrial mining " or "traditional mining", as well as with legends and historical traditions.

The debut album In finstrer Teufe was released as a CD at Hour of the Ideals Productions and in new editions in 2017 as a compact cassette at Nebular Winter Productions as well as in 2018 as a record (in-house production) and in another record edition in 2019 by Metal Naturmacht Productions .

The band then switched to Naturmacht Productions, where a new work (each on CD and LP) was released every year from 2017 to 2019, in two cases additionally on cassette with Sol Records . Dauþuz have been under contract with Amor Fati Productions since 2020.

In June 2020 the EP Grubenfall 1727 was released on CD, LP and cassette. On the EP there are two songs that have already been released, but which have been re-recorded, and a nearly 20-minute new song that concludes the continuous history of this EP. At the same time, Amor Fati Productions re-released all previous releases on LP and CD.

style

The two musicians behind the band, who claim to live 400 km away from each other ( Thuringia and North Rhine-Westphalia ), describe their style as "Dignified Black Metal " or English "Mining Black Metal ". In a review of the third studio album Monvmentvm , the style was described as "very melodic and lead-based Black Metal". Elsewhere it was said that the group played "harsh Black Metal with atmospheric elements", added "multi-layered vocals from harsh screams to clear vocals [...] strong emotions" and relaxed passages loosened up the album. The sound is compared with that of Aaskereia and Odal .

reception

The commitment to the miner theme ensures that the band is perceived positively (more). This is how a Stormbringer reviewer judged the third album:

“If 'Monvmentvm' were the umpteenth homage to the Horned One or the mountains and forests, it would be 'just' a good and exemplary Black Metal record. In its overall context, however, the disc also gains artistic value. "

Two years earlier, the second work Die Grubenmähre was rated by the readers of Metal.de with an average of nine points (and thus two more than by the editorial team) and had the tenor "Album of the year".

At the debut it was said that the two musicians “perfectly set the work, the suffering and the torment underground in the form of stories and legends of the old days”.
