Daud Rafiqpoor

Daud Rafiqpoor (born December 16, 1949 in Kabul ) is an Afghan geographer and senior scientist at the Nees Institute for Biodiversity of Plants in Bonn .

Life

Rafiqpoor studied geology and geography in Kabul and Bonn . He did his doctorate with Wilhelm Lauer on a high-mountain ecological topic. Daud Rafiqpoor is a German-speaking expert on tropical high mountain ecology and biodiversity research. Together with Peter Frankenberg (1988) and Wilhelm Lauer (2002) he developed an ecophysiological climate classification. His other research interests are climatology , geomorphology, vegetation geography, biodiversity research, Andean South America and Afghanistan. At the Nees Institute for Biodiversity of Plants at the University of Bonn, Rafiqpoor has been working with Wilhelm Barthlott on mapping global biodiversity since 2001 . From 1980 to 2001 Daud Rafiqpoor was a research assistant to Wilhelm Lauer in the long-term project "Three-dimensional landscape structure of the tropical mountains" of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz at the Geographical Institute of the University of Bonn. From 2001 to 2015 he worked with Wilhelm Barthlott on the long-term project Biodiversity in Transition at the Mainz Academy at the Nees Institute for Biodiversity of Plants in Bonn. Since 1980 he has been a member of the Commission for Earth Science Research and since 2001 an expert on the Commission for Biology of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz.
