Dave Baksh
David Nizaam Baksh (born July 26, 1980 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian guitarist, singer and producer with Indian roots. He is best known under the name Dave Brownsound or Hot Chocolate as the lead guitarist for the Canadian punk band Sum 41 . He is also the guitarist of his heavy metal / reggae project Brown Brigade , which he founded with his cousin in 2003.
Career
Sum 41 (1997-2006)
Dave, Deryck Whibley and Steve Jocz formed the punk band Sum 41 in 1996 . Dave took over the role of lead guitarist in 1997 and was responsible for the backing vocals. Together with Jason McCaslin , the band started a successful career. Dave worked on the first 4 albums and 4 EPs of Sum 41. In an interview he said that his favorite songs from "Sum 41" are Machine Gun , Pain for Pleasure , Mr. Amsterdam and The Bitter End .
On May 11, 2006, Dave left Sum 41 for personal reasons. He explained that he could not continue trying to express himself musically at Sum 41 without being a thorn in the side of the band - the creative differences were too great. From then on, he devoted himself to his new Brown Brigade project .
On July 23, 2015, Dave joined the band as a guest on a comeback show for Sum 41 at the Alternative Press Music Awards . In August 2015 Sum 41 announced that Dave would officially return to the band and be featured on the next Sum 41 album.
Brown Brigade (2003 to date)
Dave founded "Brown Brigade" in 2003 with his cousin as a side project. But since he left "Sum 41" the band has been his new focus, because there he can finally play what he has always wanted - metal. In "Brown Brigade" he takes over the guitar and the lead vocals.
The first album by "Brown Brigade" was released on September 18, 2007 in Canada and Japan. It did not become very successful and did not gain notoriety outside of these countries.
On September 12, 2008 Dave resigned as a singer and acted only as lead guitarist.
The Organ Thieves (2008 to date)
Dave has been a member of The Organ Thieves since 2008 . In January 2009 they released their first EP God's Favorite Songs on their Myspace page.
Private life
Dave is 1.75 m tall, has brown eyes and black hair. He was thrown out of school and therefore does not have a school leaving certificate. In the period before Sum 41 he played in a few heavy metal bands, and some of his influences include Metallica , Iron Maiden , Led Zeppelin, and Van Halen .
Dave has been married to his wife Jennifer Baksh for some time.
