Jason McCaslin (born Jason Paul McCaslin on September 3, 1980 in Toronto , Ontario ), better known as Cone , is the bassist and backing vocalist for the Canadian pop-punk band Sum 41 . He joined the band in February 1999 and replaced Mark Spicoluk at the same time .

He got his first bass at the age of 14 when he joined the grunge garage band Second Opinion . Avril Lavignes' current drummer, Matt Brann, was in the same band at the time . By then they had all of their instruments except the bass, so he had to play it. He got the nickname “Cone” (from English cone, ice cream cone) at school from his current bandmate Deryck Whibley , because back then he always ate ice cream “cones”.

In 2002, Cone started a side project called The Operation MD together with Todd Morse ( Juliette and the Licks , H20 ) .
