Screaming Bloody Murder is the fifth studio album by the Canadian rock band Sum 41 . It was first released in Australia on March 25, 2011. In Europe the album came out three days later and another day later in the USA . It is the first album since Underclass Hero was released in 2007 and with this the second album produced by singer Deryck Whibley. In some places it is more Metal than its predecessors, but also contains some ballads. For the first time, Sum 41 experimented with unconventional song structures (especially in the three consecutive songs Holy Image of Lies, Sick of Everyone and Happiness Machine , which, according to Liner Notes, form a trilogy called A Dark Road Out of Hell ), which make up the verse-chorus verse Break the scheme of common rock songs (other examples are Reason to Believe and Skumfuk ). The songs Time For You To Go and Baby You Don't Wanna Know , on the other hand, have more garage rock characteristics .

backgrounds

Although tour guitarist Tom Thacker is now an official member of the band and is registered as co-producer on the first single of the same name, singer Deryck Whibley recorded all the songs himself. Originally the release of an EP was planned for 2009, but it was postponed. Shortly afterwards, however, they decided to record an entire album. In November 2009, the famous producer Gil Norton ( Pixies , Jimmy Eat World , Foo Fighters ) was hired to produce the album, but released a week after the start of recording, whereupon Whibley took the production into his own hands. The recordings took place in 3 different studios, but they are all in California .

Already in June 2010 an early version of the song Skumfuk appeared on the internet, which differs from the later album version in addition to a slightly different mix in that the version on the album is preceded by a longer, calm intro. Sum 41 has been using the term Skumfuks for their fans since the album was released.
