Dave Bennett (clarinetist)

Dave Bennett (born May 18, 1984 in Pontiac , Michigan ) is an American clarinetist specializing in swing and mainstream jazz .

Bennett learned at the age of ten self-taught to play the clarinet, which he at recordings of Benny Goodman oriented. At the age of twelve he was invited to perform with the trumpeter Doc Cheatham at the Sweet Basil Jazz Club in New York.

Since 1998 he toured with the New Reformation Band and Wally's Warehouse Waifs . At seventeen he was a guest soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra . In 2003 the premiere of his Tribute of Benny Goodman Septet (with Paul Keller , Peter Siers , Hugh Leal , Bill Meyer , Matt Hoffmann and Carol McCartney ) took place at Windsor's Capitol Theater , since 2005 the band has also performed a symphonic "Pops" program on. Bennett also leads a quartet with whom he plays Dixieland and Swing in addition to Goodman standards .

He wrote numerous arrangements of Goodman "hits" and worked with former members of Goodman's band such as vibraphonist Peter Appleyard , guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli and pianist Dick Hyman , who were also special guests on his albums. In 2008 he made his European debut at the Bern International Jazz Festival , where he performed with Pizzarelli and Appleyard.
