International Jazz Festival Bern

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Jazz Festival Bern (IJFB) is a music festival in Bern , Switzerland . The festival, founded in 1976, has been held annually for ten weeks since 2003. The IJFB is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe with an international response.

background

The Bern International Jazz Festival has been held since 1976; It is therefore the oldest existing jazz festival in Switzerland, along with the Montreux Jazz Festival. It was founded by Hans Zurbrügg as President of the International Jazz Festival Bern.

Today the IJFB is embedded in the activities of the JBC Club (Jazz and Blues Classics) founded in 1990 . The club has over 1000 members. The IJFB presents over 100 concerts to its 25,000 visitors every year, many of them as part of the jazz festival. The “Back to the roots” concept chosen in 2003 - concerts in a small, intimate setting - was groundbreaking. The concept has proven itself so that it is copied by other festivals at home and abroad.

According to its philosophy, the IJFB is exclusively committed to jazz and blues musicians . In contrast to other festivals such as Montreux, in the self-perception of the organizers, it does not include types of music from the rock , folk , chanson or hip-hop scene.

reception

The Bern International Jazz Festival received regular feedback in specialist magazines and daily newspapers at home and abroad.

"The Bern Festival is a great representation of our music. We have from the top to bottom of styles, at least fifty years of music that has been created in the United States. "

- Dizzy Gillespie : The Jazz and Blues Art Box
