Dave Hereora

David Murray Hereora (* 9. August 1956 , † 5. August 2014 ) was a New Zealand Māori - trade unionists and politicians of the Labor Party . He was List MP for the Labor Party from 2002 to 2008.

biography

Hereora was a worker at Affco Meatworks and became a union organizer.

Although he won the 2002 general election in the Clevedon constituency against Judith Collins ( National ), he entered parliament as a List MP . He was Māori vice-chairman of the Labor Party. Until 2008 he was chairman of the Māori Affairs Select Committee in Parliament.

After leaving Parliament, he worked as a union organizer for the Service & Food Workers Union and was particularly active in mediation negotiations at the Griffin Food Factory in Papakura .

Hereora was married to Faith Hereora and had six children.

Hereora died on August 5, 2014 at the age of 57. David Cunliffe , the Labor Party leader at the time, said that Hereora “dedicated his life to fighting for low-wage workers”.
