David Alois Schmid
David Alois Schmid (also David-Alois Schmid ; born February 9, 1791 in Schwyz ; † April 2, 1861 ibid) was a Swiss painter , draftsman and graphic artist , primarily of costume designs and vedute .
life and work
Schmid acquired the basic technical knowledge for his work as a painter and draftsman in Lucerne , and later in the painter's colony of Johann Heinrich Bleuler in Feuerthalen . He later worked in Zurich as a colorist of traditional costumes and costumes for art dealers. Much better known are his vedutas , which depict the landscapes of Central and Eastern Switzerland . In addition to drawings, Schmid also made watercolors , although most of his works were only preserved thanks to the processing of copperplate engravings by contemporary artists. Like his brothers Franz Schmid (1796–1851) and Martin Schmid (1786–1842), who were also artistically active , he sold numerous gouaches and drawings to wealthy tourists. For his coveted panoramic landscapes chose Schmid particularly picturesque locations and years brought his Veduten by inserting rural staffage an Arcadian reputation. His much more dramatic depictions of the Goldau landslide are known .
