David Atherton

David Atherton (born January 3, 1944 , Blackpool ) is a British conductor .

David Atherton was appointed conductor of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 1968 by Georg Solti . At the same time Atherton was also active as the conductor and musical director of the London Sinfonietta , which he founded . Even at that time he was considered an important representative of new music . He enjoyed great success at the Covent Garden Opera House and thus shaped the musical life of London.

From 1989 to 2000 he was musical director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra . In addition, he conducted many of the most famous orchestras in the world. In addition to symphonic music, operas are part of his artistic repertoire.
