David Barclay (politician, 1823)

David Barclay (* 1823 in Punxsutawney , Pennsylvania , †  September 10, 1889 in Freeport , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Barclay attended Washington College . After a subsequent law degree in Pittsburgh and his admission to the bar, he began to work in the cities of Punxsutawney, Brookville and Kittanning in this profession. Between 1850 and 1855 he was one of the publishers of the Pittsburgh Union and Legal Journal newspapers . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1854 Barclay was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 24th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Dick on March 4, 1855 , who moved to the 25th district. Until March 3, 1857, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, David Barclay practiced as a lawyer again. He died on September 10, 1889 in Freeport, where he was also buried.
