David Benavidez (born December 17, 1996 in Phoenix , Arizona , USA ) is an American professional boxer of Mexican origin in the super middleweight division and current undefeated WBC world champion. He is trained by Jose Benavidez , promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz and managed by David A. Garcia .

Amateur career

Benavidez completed a total of only 15 fights with the amateurs.

Professional career

The left wingman decided his professional debut on August 17, 2013 against the Mexican Erasmo Mendoza in a 4-round fight with a classic knockout in the 1st round. Another 6 knockout victories in a row followed.

For the vacant North American junior championship title , he competed on April 25, 2015 in an 8-round fight against Rollin Williams and won by technical knockout in round 1.

On September 8, 2017 Benavidez boxed against the Romanian Ronald Gavril for the vacant WBC World Championship and won by a split judge's decision. On February 17, 2018, the direct rematch of the two took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas . This time Benavidez convinced and won clearly and unanimously on points (one of the three judges scored 119: 109, while the other two each had it 120: 108).
