David Cecil (* around 1460 ; † 1540 ) was an English politician , nobleman and courtier of Welsh origin.

David was the third son of Richard Cecil ap Philip Seisyllt from Alt-yr-Ynys on the border between Herefordshire and Monmouthshire . He acquired the Burghley estate near Stamford in Lincolnshire . He was three times Aldermann of Stamford. In 1506 he was appointed Yeoman of the Chamber. Cecil was elected Burgess for Stamford in the House of Commons in 1504, 1510, 1512, 1515 and 1523 . From 1513 he was Serjeant-at-ams and 1532 Justice of the Peace of Rutland and from June 1532 to November 1533 High Sheriff of Northamptonshire . He was a favorite of King Henry VII. It is not known what position he held at his court.

He probably died in September 1540 and was buried in St. Georges Church in Stamford.

David Cecil was first married to Alice, daughter of John Dicons of Stamford. With her he had two sons. In his second marriage he was with Jane, daughter of Thomas Roos of Dowsby and widow of Edward Villers of Flore. He had a daughter with her. His grandson William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley , son of his son Richard Cecil († 1553) , was a famous statesman.
