David Choong
David L. Choong (also known as Choong Ewe Leong or Eddy L. Choong ; born April 5, 1929 in Penang , † September 10, 2011 in Tanjung Tokong ) was a Malaysian badminton player . He was also active in several political offices in Penang and in 1961 was the only Alliance politician who entered the city council with an MCA mandate. His father was Choong Lye Hin , a former president of Penang.
Career
David Choong won the unofficial world championships , the All England , in 1951, 1952 and 1953 in men's doubles with his brother Eddy Choong . In 1954, 1955 and 1957 they lost in the final. In 1957 he won the French Open in mixed and doubles. After his sporting career, he also worked as a politician. In 1996 he suffered a stroke from which he was able to recover. After a second stroke in 2002, he was in a coma for nine years until his death.
