David Daniels (born March 12, 1966 in Spartanburg , South Carolina ) is an American opera singer ( countertenor ).

Life

He began his career as a choir boy and later as a tenor . He studied music at the College Conservatory of Music Cincinnati . Since his results as a tenor did not satisfy him, Daniels switched to countertenor during his postgraduate studies at the University of Michigan.

In 1999 he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Sesto in Giulio Cesare . His repertoire now includes a large number of Handel operas. These include the title role in Giulio Cesare and Tamerlano , Arsace in Partenope and Arsamene in Serse, and Bertarido in Rodelinda . He also sang Nerone in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea and the title role in Orfeo ed Euridice . In Europe he can mainly be seen at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where he a. a. Nerone and the title roles in Rinaldo and Orlando (2006) and David in the oratorio Saul sang.

David Daniels was founded in 2014 by the judge at the Supreme Court , Ruth Bader Ginsburg , married to his partner Scott Walters and is one of the few opera singers who publicly about their homosexuality speak. At the end of January 2019, he and his partner were arrested in the US state of Michigan. You are accused of raping a young colleague in 2010.
