David F. Girard-diCarlo

David F. Girard-diCarlo (born 1942 in a suburb of Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American lawyer and diplomat .

He trained as a lawyer at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia and at Villanova University . After completing his studies, he began his career as a lawyer in national public transport, first with the "Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority" and from 1981, during the presidencies of Ronald Reagan and George Bush , with Amtrak .

In 1991 Girard-diCarlo began working for Blank Rome LLP , one of the premier Philadelphia law firms. For several years he has been managing director of the subsidiary Blank Rome Government Relations LLC, a lobbying organization in Washington .

Following a resolution by the US Senate , David F. Girard-diCarlo was succeeded in 2008 by Susan McCaw , who resigned from office in November 2007, as ambassador to Austria . Originally, the election campaign supporter Charles Gargano was supposed to take over this office, but was not confirmed by the US Senate .

Girard-diCarlo was sworn in on July 1, 2008 by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice . With the presentation of his diplomatic credentials to the Austrian President Heinz Fischer on September 10, 2008, Girard-diCarlo officially assumed his office as Ambassador of the United States in Vienna. After US President Barack Obama took office, he resigned from his post in January 2009; he was succeeded by William Eacho .
