David Garibaldi

David Garibaldi (born November 4, 1946 in Oakland , California ) is an American drummer who is considered to be the co-founder of funk rhythm .

Life

Inspired by bands like The Meters or James Brown , Garibaldi developed his individual " two-level-concept " technique in the late 1960s, which is essentially about the relationship between accented and unaccented beats, mostly with Play the snare drum and the hi-hat . Garibaldi was a co-founder of the pioneering funk band Tower of Power , of which he was a member from 1970 to 1975 and between 1979 and 1982 and only rejoined in 1998. Furthermore he played u. a. with Santana , Natalie Cole , Patti Austin , Dom Famularo, Ray Obiedo, Michael Spiro and Jesus Diaz. He is currently a sought-after lecturer and a permanent member of the Californian band RAD. In 2012 he was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame. In Oakland in front of Yoshi's Jazz Club, Garibaldi and bassist Marc Van Wageningen were hit by an Amtrak train on January 12, 2017 and both were taken to hospital, seriously injured.

David Garibaldi plays drums from the Yamaha company , in the configuration: bass drum, two hanging toms, standing tom, two snares, two hi-hats and five cymbals. He is an endorser of Sabian Basin, Vic Firth Sticks and Remo Skins.
