- David Gilmour About Face
(1984)

David Gilmour is the first solo album by British musician David Gilmour , the guitarist , singer , composer and songwriter for the rock band Pink Floyd . The album was released on May 25, 1978 in England and on June 17, 1978 in the USA.

background

The album was recorded at Super Bear Studios in France between December 1977 and January 1978 by John Etchells and mixed in March 1978 by Nick Griffiths in the same studio. The cover was developed jointly by Hipgnosis and Gilmour.

The only single to be released was There's No Way Out of Here , a piece written by Ken Baker that was originally released on Gilmour's 1976 Unicorn album Too Many Crooks . The single flopped in Europe, but had some respectable success in the US market. Gilmour originally wanted to use the track Comfortably Numb on this album, Roger Waters (Gilmour's bandmate at Pink Floyd) was able to persuade him to save the song for the Pink Floyd concept album The Wall , released a year later .

The record was produced by Gilmour himself. The pieces on David Gilmour are mostly blues-oriented and clearly guitar-heavy. The ballad So Far Away is an exception . The title Mihalis is Greek for "Michael" and was named after a yacht that Gilmour owned at the time.

The album was digitally remastered re-released by EMI Records in Europe on August 14, 2006 . Legacy Recordings / Columbia Records released the remastered CD in the US and Canada on September 12, 2006.
