David Gottfried Gerhard (born May 9, 1734 in Herrnlauersitz near Wohlau ; † August 29, 1809 ) was a German Protestant clergyman.

The son of a pastor lost his parents at an early age and was then supported by Wroclaw councilor Waltsgott. He studied theology in Halle from 1754 and became a preacher at St. Trinity in Breslau in 1759. In 1778 Gerhard was appointed pastor at the Elisabethkirche and thus at the head of the Breslau clergy and appointed senior consistorial councilor. In 1780 he founded a school keepers' seminar, thereby making a contribution to the elementary school system. In 1797 he was made an honorary doctorate from the University of Halle.

In July 1798 Gerhard was commissioned to work out a new evangelical hymn book for Silesia; in 1800 it was first put into use.
