Adolf Schimmelpfennig (historian)

Adolf Schimmelpfennig (born November 14, 1815 in Oels , Province of Silesia , † September 2, 1887 in Breslau ) was a German pastor and librarian.

Life

Adolf Schimmelpfennig was a child of very poor parents and grew up in the Oels children's hospital after their early death. Because of his hard work and his skills, he came to the Oelser Gymnasium , graduated from high school and began to study Protestant theology at the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Breslau . He passed the exams in 1838/39 and became pastor in Arnsdorf in the district of Strehlen in 1843 . In 1862 he received his doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Wroclaw. In 1879 he had to give up his pastoral work for health reasons. He moved to Wroclaw, where he was employed as the librarian of the Silesian Society for Patriotic Culturereceived. He delivered u. a. for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie many descriptions of the lives of Silesian theologians and scholars.
