Sir David James Gardiner Rose GCMG , CVO , MBE (born April 10, 1923 in British Guiana , † November 10, 1969 in London ) was a British colonial politician , the last administrator of Antigua and Barbuda and Governor General of Guyana .

biography

After studying at Mount St. Mary's College in Derbyshire , he joined the British colonial administration and was initially Deputy Commissioner of Police ( Assistant Commissioner of Police - Crime ) of British Guyana . This was followed by his appointment as defense officer with the federal government of the West Indian Federation .

A short time later he was initially acting administrator of Antigua and St. Lucia , before he became the last administrator of Antigua and Barbuda on March 6, 1964 as the successor to Ian Graham Turbott . He held this office until December 16, 1966, when he became Governor General of Guyana . At the same time he was raised to the nobility by the Queen as Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George .

In the course of the planned independence of Guyana as a republic on February 23, 1970 he was planned as the first President of Guyana . However, he could no longer take up this office because he died in the collapse of a nine-story scaffolding in London , where he wanted to receive the certificate of discharge from Queen Elizabeth II .

In the course of his life he was also named a member of the Order of the British Empire in 1954 and Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1966 . In addition, he was posthumously awarded the Order of Excellence by Guyana in 1970 .
