Elvis Bešlagič (born July 4, 1973 in Jesenice , SR Slovenia , Yugoslavia ; † April 24, 2013 in Munich , Germany ) was a Slovenian ice hockey player and coach .
Career
Elvis Bešlagič began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HK Jesenice , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Slovenian ice hockey league in the 1991/92 season . With the team he became Slovenian champion straight away in his rookie year . He was able to repeat this success with Jesenice in the following two years. He then moved to HDD Olimpija Ljubljana within Slovenia , with whom he also won the national championship title in 1996 and 1997. For the 1997/98 season , the defender returned to Jesenice. After he had spent the 1999/2000 season for Jesenice initially exclusively in the multinational Interliga , he moved to Germany for the Iserlohn Roosters in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey in the further course of the season .
From 2000 to 2003 Bešlagič was in the third-class ice hockey league with the Ratinger Ice Aliens and the ERC Selb under contract. He then spent one season each with the second division clubs Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg , SC Bietigheim-Bissingen and REV Bremerhaven . For the 2006/07 season he returned to Wolfsburg and rose with the Grizzly Adams as second division champions in the German ice hockey league . However, he himself stayed in the 2nd Bundesliga and began the 2007/08 season with Moskitos Essen , which he left after six months to play for their league rivals EHC Munich for the following year and a half . In 2009 he ended his professional career, but in December of the same year he joined the Bayern league club EC Pfaffenhofen . At Bayern he was one of the top scorers for the next two years. After two years in Pfaffenhofen, he became player-coach at the fifth division EV Moosburg in 2011 .
In the 2012/2013 season he was a coach at EHC Waldkraiburg , where he was on leave in November 2012. He then moved back to the player camp and was active for SE Freising.
Bešlagič was married and had a son born in 2012. He took his wife's name and was called Elvis Reese since December 2012 . After the end of his professional career, he ran a fitness company in Munich with his wife. Elvis Bešlagič died on April 23, 2013 at the age of 39. Nothing is known about the cause of death.
International
For Yugoslavia , Bešlagič took part in the junior division in the U18 Junior B European Championships in 1990 and 1991 and the U20 Junior C World Championship in 1991 . After the division of the country, he was part of the newly established Slovenian national team at the C World Championships in 1993 , 1995 and 1997, as well as at the B World Cup in 2000 and the A World Championships in 2002 and 2003 . In total, he took part in eight World Cup tournaments and played 115 times for the Slovenian national team. In 2012 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Slovenian ice hockey.
