The 1999/2000 season of the Interliga was the first staging of the ice hockey championship designed as the successor to the Alpine League and was played with a total of eight teams from three countries. The first champion was the Austrian representative EC KAC , who was able to prevail in the final against the EC VSV .
Participant and mode
A total of eight teams from three countries took part in the league, with the Austrian and Slovenian participants corresponding to last year's teams in the Alpine League (only HK Bled did not take part in the league). The Italian Alpine League teams had expressed no interest in continuing an international league. Instead, two teams from Hungary joined the field.
The eight teams played in the basic round (from October 1, 1999 to January 21, 2000) a total of two rounds, which resulted in twenty-eight games. Then playoffs were played, with all teams qualified. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals consisted of two games per series, with the lower-placed team having home rights in the first game.
