Gregor Leopold Hager (born April 17, 1981 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player who was active in the Austrian ice hockey league for the EC KAC and EC Red Bull Salzburg during his career .

Career

Hager began his career in the various youth teams of the EC KAC and, among other things, played a season in the Telekom Austria team , which the EC KAC ran together with the EC VSV in the national league. From 2005 to 2007 he moved to EC Red Bull Salzburg for two seasons , but then returned to his home club. In the 2007/08 season he developed into a shorthanded specialist and was able to record a total of five shorthanded goals and two assists. He won the Austrian championship four times with the Klagenfurters and once with the Red Bulls from Salzburg .

In the league game against EHC Linz on October 7, 2012, he was attacked hard by the Linz player Brian Lebler and suffered a severe concussion. He left for the rest of the season. On July 24, 2013, he announced his retirement as an active player for health reasons. Following his active career as an athlete, in August 2013 he took on a coaching position in the KAC youth team. When he retired, he wanted to move to the Metnitztal with his family . Hager had taken over a small farm there from his father-in-law and, in order to secure his livelihood, he also had a sawmill in Vellach , specializing primarily in contract cutting. In addition to his house on Klagenfurt's local mountain Kreuzbergl , the passionate hunter lives with his family in the Metnitz farmhouse.

International

Hager initially played for Austria in the junior division at the U18 C-European Championship in 1998 . He also represented the Alpine country at the U18 B World Cup in 1999 . With the U20 selection , he took part in the C-World Championships in 1999 and 2000 and, after the switch to the current division system, in the World Cup in Division I in 2001 .

In the men's selection , he made his debut on April 13, 2002 in the 1: 4 defeat in the friendly against Germany in Rosenheim . In February 2009 he took part in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 and in April 2010 in the World Championship of Division I 2010 .

As a trainer

Between 2014 and 2017, Hager looked after the EHC Althofen from the Carinthian regional league. Since 2016 he has also been Vice President of the Carinthian Ice Hockey Association.
