Brian Lebler (born July 16, 1988 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian - Canadian ice hockey player who is under contract with the EHC Linz in the first Austrian league. His father Edward and brother Michael were also ice hockey players.

Career

Brian Lebler was born in Klagenfurt and went back to Canada with his family at the age of four. There he began his career as an ice hockey player with the Penticton Vees, for which he was active from 2004 to 2006 in the junior league British Columbia Hockey League . He then attended the University of Michigan for four years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel to his studies in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . With the University of Michigan, he won the CCHA championship in 2008 and 2010. In the 2010/11 season , the winger made his professional ice hockey debut when he was on the ice for the Syracuse Crunch from the American Hockey League and their cooperation partner Elmira Jackals from the ECHL . For the 2011/12 season he and his brother Michael moved to EHC Linz from the Austrian ice hockey league . With the team he won the national championship title straight away .

After being named top scorer in the Austrian league for the 2014/15 season, he moved from EHC Black Wings Linz to the panthers of ERC Ingolstadt in May 2015 , drawing a release clause in his contract that made him move Abroad made possible. After a season in Ingolstadt, he returned to Linz. Back in Linz in 2017 he was again top scorer of the Austrian ice hockey league.

International

Lebler made his debut on November 8, 2013 in a 2-0 win against Slovenia in Innsbruck in the national team of his country of birth and was on the ice for the first time at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi at a major tournament. In the same year he then took part in Division I of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2014 and achieved promotion to the top division with the Austrian team. At this tournament he was the top scorer and after his teammate Thomas Koch also the second best scorer and was consequently elected to the All-Star team. After he missed relegation with the Alpine nationals at the 2015 World Cup , he played again in Division I in 2016 and 2017. He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang .
