Andreas Kristler (born August 30, 1990 in Lienz ) is an Austrian ice hockey striker . He has been under contract with EHC Linz in the Austrian Ice Hockey League since August 2017 and is a member of the Austrian national team . The striker has long been considered one of the greatest talents in Austrian ice hockey.
Career
Kristler has been playing ice hockey since he was three and completed the youth teams of his home club EC Irschen . After his time in Irschen, he played at UEC Lienz for a few years before moving to the youth of the EC VSV in Villach on the advice of ex-VSV striker Robert Wachter and the former Carinthian elite league top scorer Pavel Novotný .
At the age of 16 Kristler made his debut in the senior team, two seasons later he finally made his breakthrough. In the 2008/09 season he played continuously in the combat team, for which he scored twelve points in 52 games. He was then appointed to the Austrian squad by team boss Lars Bergström for the 2009 World Cup in the top division .
For the 2011/12 season Kristler moved within the Austrian ice hockey league to EC Red Bull Salzburg and became Austrian champions with the Red Bulls in 2014, 2015 and 2016 .
International
Kristler completed an U20 and U18 world championship for Austria. At the U20 Junior World Championship in Division I in 2009 , he made it to the top division with the U20 national team .
On April 8, 2009 he made his debut in the 1: 3 defeat against Russia in Innsbruck for the national team and was in action at the 2009 World Cup , where he was voted the best player of the Austrian team in the second game against the United States . His second World Cup participation in the top division followed in 2013 . Shortly before the 2014 Winter Olympics , Kristler was removed from the Olympic squad by national coach Emanuel Viveiros . At the 2016 World Cup he played with the Alpine nationals in Division I.
