Mark McNeill (born February 22, 1993 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Linz in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since July 2019 and plays for the center . He is the son of former ice hockey player Bernie McNeill .
Career
McNeill was in 2008 at the Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League in fifth place of the Prince Albert Raiders selected, having previously for 13 years at the South Side Athletic Club was active. Since then, the center played with the Raiders in the Western Hockey League. In the 2010/11 season he reached the play-offs there and was the second best scorer of his team with 81 points.
In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , McNeill was selected in 18th place by the Chicago Blackhawks and signed an entry-level contract there the following year . Initially, however, he stayed in Prince Albert and was named team captain there in his final 2012/13 season . He finished the season ahead of rookie Leon Draisaitl at the top of the team's internal scorer rating.
After several short assignments in the two pre-seasons, McNeill then moved permanently to the Rockford IceHogs , the Blackhawks' farm team, in the American Hockey League . In January 2016 he made his NHL debut for the Blackhawks, although it remained for the time being with this one use. After the former first round election was subsequently used exclusively in the AHL, it was given to the Dallas Stars in February 2017 together with a conditional four-round vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . In return, the Swedish defender Johnny Oduya returned to Chicago.
After a year of organizing the Stars, he was transferred to the Nashville Predators in February 2018 in exchange for Andrew O'Brien . There he ended the season, but did not get a continuing contract, so he moved to the Boston Bruins as a free agent in July 2018 .
In the summer of 2019, McNeill decided to move to Europe and joined the EHC Linz .
International
In 2010, McNeill took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge . At the U18 Junior World Championship in 2011 , he was fourth-best scorer in the Canadian selection with six points.
