In the 2009/10 season Florek was able to more than double his points and lost with his team to the University of Michigan in the final of the CCHA championship with 1: 2. Nevertheless, the Wildcats qualified for the NCAA series for the national championship, in which they were eliminated after two extra times in the first game against St. Cloud State University . In the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , the Boston Bruins selected him in the fifth round in 135th place. In his third year, Florek was assistant captain and was appointed captain of his crew a year later. After performing well in the 2011/12 season, he was elected to the CCHA Second All-Star Team.

After the end of the CCHA season, Florek signed an entry level contract with the Boston Bruins on March 25, 2012 and made his professional debut with the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League at the end of the 2011/12 season . The next year he played completely in the AHL and came to a total of 30 points in 83 games. Florek also began the 2013/14 season with the Providence Bruins. On January 4, 2014, he finally made his National Hockey League debut for the Boston Bruins in the game against the Winnipeg Jets . Five days later, he scored his first NHL goal against the Los Angeles Kings . After he was initially sent back to the AHL, Boston called him back to the NHL squad at the beginning of the play-offs. Florek played six games and scored his first NHL play-off goal against the Detroit Red Wings on April 20, 2014 . In July 2014, the Bruins extended his contract for a year, but used him exclusively in the AHL in the 2014/15 season. For the next year Florek signed a contract with the New York Islanders , which also only used him in the AHL with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers . After the season Florek received no offer from an NHL team and signed with the AHL team Milwaukee Admirals shortly before the start of the season .

For the 2017/18 season , Florek decided to move to Europe and signed on May 19, 2017 with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League . In the 2018/19 season he was team captain for the Roosters. After two years in Iserlohn, he moved to EHC Linz in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga .
