Career

Koch made his debut at the age of 16 in the 1999/2000 season at EC KAC in the highest Austrian league. During this season he also played for the Telekom team in the national league. He went through all junior national teams in Austria and was the most successful Austrian scorer and most successful assists in the play-offs in the 2003/04 season .

In 2004 he moved to Sweden to Luleå HF in the Elitserien . After the NHL went on strike in its 2004/05 season, the team was reinforced with stars from the NHL. Among them were Tomas Holmström , Mikael Renberg and Justin Williams .

After two years in Sweden, he returned to Austria for the 2006/07 season and joined EC Red Bull Salzburg , with whom he became Austrian champion . As a player with the best plus / minus balance in the league, he himself made a decisive contribution to winning the title. In 2009 he was awarded the Ron Kennedy Trophy as the most valuable player in the league . After winning the title in 2011, when he scored the winning goal in extra time in a 3-2 win in the decisive seventh game of the play-off final, he signed a three-year contract with final opponent EC KAC , which has since been extended to 2018. He was Austrian champion five times with Klagenfurt AC and four times with EC Red Bull Salzburg. Of the players currently active in the Austrian league, Koch is the one with the most goals, assists and thus scorer points.

International

In the junior division, Koch first played for Austria in 2000 in the U18-B World Championship and the U20-C World Championship . After switching to the division system, he was on the ice in Division I at the U20 World Championships in 2001 , 2002 and 2003 .

With the men's national team of the Alpine country, he took part in the world championships of the top division in 2003 , 2004 , 2007 , 2009 , when the Austrians only had to relegate because the German team, as the host, could not relegate the following world championship, in 2011 and 2013 as well as division I. In 2006 , when he was named the best striker of the tournament, in 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 , when he was appointed to the all-star team as the best preparer and - without having scored a goal himself - top scorer of the tournament Player of his team was chosen to take part.

He also played in the qualifying tournaments for the Winter Olympics in 2006 , 2010 and 2014 . In the latter, the Austrians benefited from the defeat of the German team against Italy at the tournament in Bietigheim-Bissingen and - although they themselves had lost to Germany in extra time - were able to qualify for the Winter Games for the first time since 2002 . There , however, Koch's team was largely in a losing position and after three defeats from four games, only Norway could be defeated, tenth place out of twelve teams.
