Nicholas "Nick" Petersen (born May 27, 1989 in Wakefield , Québec ) is a Canadian - American ice hockey player who has been playing in the Austrian ice hockey league for the Klagenfurt AC since the 2018/19 season . Before that he was active for five years in the German Ice Hockey League for the Schwenninger Wild Wings , Iserlohn Roosters and Eisbären Berlin .

Career

Nick Petersen played from 2007 to 2009 for the Shawinigan Cataractes in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . He then moved to the Saint John Sea Dogs . In his second and third year Petersen was one of the best scorers in the league and was selected in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in 121st place by the Pittsburgh Penguins . In May 2010 he signed a three-year contract with the Penguins and played until 2012 in the farm team Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League and with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL . In September 2012, his contract was terminated and Petersen signed a contract with the Houston Eros from the AHL. During the season he played in both Texas and the Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL. For the 2013/14 season Petersen moved to the German Ice Hockey League for the Schwenninger Wild Wings . There he was the top scorer of his team with 17 goals and signed an annual contract with league competitor Iserlohn Roosters in June 2014 and also spent the following season 2015/16 with the Sauerland, for which he completed 107 DEL appearances in two years and scored 43 goals and 59 Assists posted. In the 2014/15 season in particular , he was the best scorer and goalscorer of his team and one of the top scorers in the DEL with 53 points and 22 goals.

On April 4, 2016, he signed with another DEL club, the Eisbären Berlin . Here the winger made a remarkable start to the 2016/17 season in a series of attacks with Darin Olver and Daniel Fischbuch with eleven points from the first six games . Overall, Petersen was the most successful polar bear scorer this season with 35 points. In the 2017/18 season , Petersen played a strong main round, scored 43 points in 48 games , became runner-up with the Eisbären and was the most successful scorer in the 2018 playoffs with 24 points.

After offers of international ice hockey leagues and a. from Russia, Sweden and Switzerland, he moved to the international Austrian ice hockey league for the Austrian record champions Klagenfurt AC for the 2018/19 season . With the club from Carinthia , he was able to win the championship in his first season and with 80 points was both the best point player of his club in the preliminary round and in the play-offs .
