Wakefield is a village in the La Pêche municipality in the province of Quebec in Canada . Wakefield on the Gatineau River has a few thousand inhabitants.

Wakefield was founded in 1830 by Irish, Scottish and British immigrants. It is located about 30 kilometers northwest of Canada's capital Ottawa and is surrounded by picturesque nature. Numerous emigrants from Germany, Lithuania, Ukraine, Italy, Spain and Ireland have settled in Wakefield and the surrounding area. Tourism is the main source of income. The place was named after the English Wakefield .

Wakefield is famous for its steam train service between Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield, which runs once a day during the summer months. The live music bar The Black Sheep is also known throughout Canada . Further offers are kayak tours and ski runs. Wakefield is also the hometown of ice hockey player Nick Petersen .
