Master: HDD Olimpija Ljubljana

The 2001/02 season of the Interliga was the third staging of the ice hockey championship designed as the successor to the Alpine League and was played with a total of eight teams from five countries. The defending champion was the Slovenian team HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , which was able to defend its championship in the new season.

Participant and mode

The field of participants remained essentially unchanged compared to the previous season. The last-placed HK Bled did not take part in the league this time, as did the penultimate HK Red Star Belgrade (who also did not play for the placement games last season) and the Ferencvárosi TC from Hungary. The Serbian team HK Vojvodina Novi Sad and the MHK Dubnica from Slovakia were newcomers .

The eight teams played a double round trip. The best four then played in a playoff consisting of semi-finals and final for the championship. Placement games took place in parallel, in which the final order was decided. Playoffs and placement games were decided in two games per series, whereby first the wins and then the goal difference counted.
