With these clubs he was a total of seven times Austrian champion . He was also a member of the Austrian national team for many years .

Career

Welser made his debut at the EC KAC in the highest Austrian league in the 1999/2000 season at the age of 16 . He also played for the Telekom team in the National League this season. In his first year at the ÖEHL he was Austrian champion with the Klagenfurt team and was able to defend the title in 2001 and win it for the third time in 2004.

In 2005 he moved to Sweden to Skellefteå AIK , with whom he rose to the Elitserien , the highest league in the Scandinavian country, in 2006. After two years in Sweden, he returned to Austria for the 2007/08 season . Since then he has played for EC Red Bull Salzburg, with whom he became Austrian champions in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2014, participation in the playoff final was enough, as the victorious final opponent HC Bozen as an Italian team was able to win the league but not the national championship title. With the Red Bulls he also won the Continental Cup in 2010 .

On September 19, 2017, he suffered a stroke and had to end the season early. In November 2017, Welser announced his retirement from competitive sports, and EC Red Bull Salzburg then blocked his jersey number # 20.

On November 8, 2002, he made his debut in the 3-2 win against Belarus in the Norwegian Asker in the men's national team . For this he took part in the world championships of the top division in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2007 , 2011 and 2013 . In 2006 , when he achieved the best plus / minus balance of the tournament, in 2008 , 2010 and 2012 , he played in Division I of the World Cup, with immediate promotion to the top division after relegation in the previous year.
