Sir Edward Victor Luckhoo Kt (born May 24, 1912 in New Amsterdam , † March 3, 1998 ) was the last Governor General of Guyana and, after its transformation into a republic, the first President of Guyana.

biography

Luckhoo graduated from Queen's College, Guyana and then studied at St Catherine's College, Oxford University . He was admitted to the bar in 1931 and became crown attorney in 1965 . From 1944 to 1947 he served as justice of the peace (magistrate), in 1966 he was Justice of Appeal. From 1969 to 1976 he headed the Guyanese judiciary. From November 10, 1969 until it was converted into a republic in 1970, Luckhoo was acting governor general and then acting president. On January 1, 1970, he was named a Knight Bachelor .
