Arthur Chung

Raymond Arthur Chung (born January 10, 1918 in Windsor Forest in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara region , † June 23, 2008 in Georgetown ) was a Guyanese politician (non-party).

Chung was born in Windsor Forest in 1918, the youngest of eight children to Joseph and Lucy Chung.

Chung was the first ethnic Chinese to become president of a non-Asian country and was also the first president of the Republic of Guyana. His term of office lasted from March 17, 1970 to October 6, 1980.

Since 1954 he was married to Doreen Pamela Ng-See-Quan. The marriage had two children.

Chung died in June 2008 at the age of 90 from multiple medical complications.
