David Malin
David Frederick Malin (born March 28, 1941 ) is an Anglo-Australian astronomer and eminent astrophotographer . He was best known for his color photographs of dust and gas nebulae and other celestial objects. A galaxy discovered by Malin in 1986 was named after him. Malin 1 is the largest known spiral galaxy to date .
Malin is also the inventor of some photographic techniques, as well as the author of numerous specialist books , mainly on research and photography of gas nebulas .
In 1991 the asteroid (4766) Malin was named after him.
